I figured I'd post a few pictures of my latest creation here too.
I put a 13hp Chinese Honda in my cart, and made it run off the pedal start and all. BUT, not alone, no no no! Car53WhereRU helped me with every bit of the wiring and such related things, but the basic swap was my handiwork. I still have a few throttle bugs to work out, topping out at 12-14mph is not quite cutting it. It will wind more, but I have to get it adjusted in there
and all should be well. Considering the FE290 was goverend around 3000 RPMs, and this engine makes it's 13hp at 4000, I should see a nice speed increase. I WILL say it hauls hiny up to the speed it reaches, but cuts off a little too soon. I am also not used to the sound of a splash oil engine, sounds like a rattle or something but it's not, so it doesn't bother me too much. Ok, I'll shut up now and post a few pictures.
And YES, I'm getting a new breather hose!
I prettied up the front end a little when there was nothing else to do.
If anyone else here is interested in doing the swap, I'm sure you can handle the mechanical and physical aspects of it, but I'll save you a headache and post the wiring.
Get a Napa AR143 accessory relay, run a wire from the frame ground to terminal #30 on the relay. Run a wire from termial #87 to the black kill wire on the engine. There is a short black wire coming off the low-oil shutdown, don't use that one. There is also a wire that is tan but covered with a black cover, don't use that one either. Run a wire from terminal #85 to the unused terminal on the top microswitch on the throttle cam assembly. Add a wire on the terminal of the Club Car solenoid with the blue wire coming off it and attach that to terminal #86. |

Yes, it is; I love it, great boost!; it will be after I get the throttle worked out. It hauls hiny up to its slow speed now, but at 3600-4000 it should give me a nice speed increase also; I don't know yet.
I may put a little more sound insulation here and here under the seat, it is a bit louder than the FE290, and I don't know how the weird neighbors are going to like that. |

| nice job on that, looks real good. The engine looks like a factory job. The drive belt looks kinda tight, could it be helping keep your top end speed down alittle. can you slide the engine towards the rearend any. Just a thought. I don't know if you have the flexibilty with the belts like you do with an ezgo. |

The belt is not all that tight, but I do need a new one. It is supposed to be 1" wide, it's getting south of 15/16" now and creeping up on 7/8" Those torque springs really do a number on belts, and the one from BU doesn't even really help that much. With the stock engine, you have a small amount of adjustment. But this one only has side-to-side adjustment, no for and aft. Don't even ask me about that one, because I have no idea. Of course, it is an industrial engine, not a replacement for a golf cart.
So far, the only thing I miss is the quiet and refined power of a Kawasaki, this one would be quiet if it had an oil pump like the Kawis, but it is just a splash system. |

I just thought I'd post an update on this engine since it's been a little over a month, give or take. I did not give it the break in most engines want, I ran the piss out of it and hauled a lot and towed a lot more yet. It never even wanted to run out of power. I is sounding much better now, it is broken in more and now has Castrol SYNTEC synthetic oil in it. Fuel efficiency is also much better, I ran a WHOLE (7 gallons, 26L ) through it in less than two weeks, and not even that much riding. I could never get a tank through the FE290 in a month even with riding a LOT every day. Of course, that engine was 103cc smaller than this one... |

Nice install, maybe you could market a kit for others to use, once you have ironed out the bugs? We can get those engines over here too. I am looking for an agent for the robin V twins so i can offer a complete install kit for ezgo's in the UK. _________________ Welcome to the customcart forum

I doubt these would be popular. The 13 doesn't offer a whole lot more get-up-and-go, it just makes it take hills like a hot knife through butter. They do make 16hp versions of this engine though. _________________ -Aaron

| Ok, put a 16hp in it and let us know how much better it is. |
